With the sun shining down on the Isle of Anglesey, conditions were near perfect for a long weekend of racing as the Wirral 100 Club rolled up to Trac Mon for the 3rd round of their 2018 season.
Defending 100 – 500cc All Comers champion Adrian Kershaw didn’t have things all his own way at Oulton Park in the last round, having to settle for 3rd place in both races on the ZXR400.
This time around, Adrian was keen to make amends, but still found himself finishing 2nd in the opening race of the weekend. However, he soon followed that up with a win, and then two more on the Sunday to stamp his authority on the class ahead of the next meeting in late July.
After missing the last round at Oulton, Sean Martin was keen to return to racing in the Pre-Electric Powerbikes class, although he hadn’t counted on an oil leak forcing him to retire from his first race of the weekend. Despite the lack of time on the bike, Sean came back strong to take 3rd in the next race, and followed that up with 2nd and another 3rd on the Sunday to score some solid points.
There was also a great podium in the opening 650 Twins race for local racer David Evans, and he was unlucky not to grab another at he finished 4th in each of the following races that weekend.
With two more rounds to go this season, it’s still all to play for in many of the Wirral 100 classes.
