The final round of the 2014 Thundersport GB season took place at Mallory Park last weekend, giving many riders their final opportunity of the year for podium glory.
Joe Barton (pictured) was in action in the Van Insurer 600 Sportsman Elite class, and put in some strong, consistent performances to register a top five finish, and two top ten finishes in the final races of the year. Joe took the ContiRaceAttack Comp shod Yamaha to 5th in the Formula 600 class this year out of 56 riders, and also finished 11th out of 62 riders in the Elite Championship, a great result for Joe and the HB Motorcycles team, operating on a limited budget.
In the Minitwins, Lee Wainwright took his Suzuki, fitted with ContiRaceAttack Comp treaded race tyres, to 2nd place in the 3rd race of the weekend to take home some silverware for the trophy cabinet too.
One of the biggest results of the weekend came in the Sparklite Golden Era Superbike championship. On the Saturday, Richard Blunt took his Kawasaki 750 to 3rd in the second race of the day, after recording a DNF in the first. On the Sunday, Richard made the brave decision to switch from his regular brand of tyres to the ContiRaceAttack Slick, with the help of the team at A&R Racing.
Starting 4th on the grid in Race 3, Richard put in a superb performance to take the race win by almost a second from rival John Dieterman. Even better, he followed it up with a second, emphatic victory, taking the chequered flag almost 9 seconds ahead of the rider in second. Congratulations to Richard on his excellent results at the weekend on Continental!
We have had a fantastic year of UK racing in 2014, and would like to thank both the riders, and our expert race dealers for their support. We are looking forward to seeing you all back on track in 2015!
