Thundersport GB best tyres for Donington

After a wet opening weekend at Brands Hatch just three weeks ago, hopes were high for some sunshine for the 2nd round at Donington – but mother nature brought all four seasons along with her to the East Midlands circuit.

Torrential rain, high winds, snow and sunshine saw track conditions change quickly – but Continental shod riders coped superbly to bring home valuable points, fastest laps and podium finishes galore in several classes.

The ContiRaceAttack Rain once again proved very popular with riders in the wet conditions, offering superb outright grip thanks to the supersoft compound, even in the colder conditions.

Continental backed RS Racing had a weekend of mixed fortunes on the Honda SP1, with Ryan scoring much needed points after working hard to sort the bike’s fueling issues in the run up to Easter. We’ll have his full report very soon.

In the highly competitive Golden Era Supersport class, Ryan Cooper of Coops Racing twice made it up on to the podium, with a 3rd place in the second race, followed by a 2nd place in the final outing of the bank holiday weekend. EB Racing’s Martyn Bloomfield also took four top ten finishes on his Yamaha, wearing ContiRaceAttack Comp treaded race tyres from specialist dealer In Front Motorcycles of Chester.

Race dealer Tyres 4 Bikes are working with a number of promising riders this season, and Dave Langley continued his excellent start to the year with a 3rd place followed by three wins in the Golden Era Steelsport class on his Honda, also notching up three fastest laps in the process. Jack Thompson also continued to improve as he enjoys his debut season with Thundersport with the Elite 600 class.

Alex Laureys continued to show great form in the Freshman 600 class, making the most of the grip from his ContiRaceAttack Rain tyres on his Kawasaki to take a superb 2nd place overall along with a class win in the wet, and a fastest lap. His excellent results over the weekend see him currently leading the championship.

In the Continental Pre-National Sport 600 series Sam Holme, supported by Village Motorcycles of North Yorkshire, showed real improvement finishing as high up as 4th on the Kawasaki, with Adam Darnell also running well to take two 5th placed finishes over the weekend.

Jason Markham, running his Suzuki SV650 in the Stock Twins class, brought home some excellent points to take 2nd place in his opening race, following that up with two wins and a fastest lap before unfortunately recording a DNF in the last outing of the weekend.

After missing the opening round at Brands Hatch, Lee Ewbank of #WeR1Racing needed to get on the gas in the GP1 Freshman class against a strong grid. After a cautious opening race where he came home 6th in class, Lee set his sights on the podium. A superb second race saw him finish in 2nd, followed by a 3rd and another excellent 2nd place on the Monday.

Finally, Michael Tustin of Team MTR continued his amazing start to the season in the GP1 Sportsman class, using a combination of ContiTrack Slick and ContiRaceAttack Rain as the conditions changed throughout the race weekend. Michael took the win in race one recording a fastest lap in the process, and followed that up with two 2nd places and another fastest lap in the final race.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to come and see us in the paddock over the weekend, and congratulations on some great results – we’ll be back for Snetterton at the end of April!
