Despite Britain due to catch the tail end of Hurricane Bertha this weekend, BEMSEE riders descended on the Brands Hatch GP circuit on Friday for the 7th round of their season, one of the favourite tracks amongst riders in the paddock.
The weather on the Saturday was warm and dry, if not a little windy but on Sunday rain showers left riders making a decision about which tyres to run on a drying circuit with Continental offering the ContiRaceAttack Slick and ContiRaceAttack Rain. Tyre selection was crucial as Sarah Jordan found out in Thunderbike Extreme after pulling in on the first lap of her 3rd race of the weekend. Despite playing around by making a couple of experimental tweaks to bike setup, Sarah put in two consistent performances for top ten finishes at her favourite circuit.
Thunderbike Extreme Rookie Michael Copley took a 2nd, 3rd and two 4th places on his first visit to Brands Hatch GP putting in some excellent lap times for a first time visit.
Kurtis Butler (pictured, credits to Bryan Lancaster Photos) was once again at the front end of the field in the MRO Minitwins qualifying 1st in class. The first race saw Kurtis passed by Harry Truelove to finish 2nd in class, despite setting a fastest lap. The second race saw another fastest lap, and this time Kurtis held his nerve to take the win. Following an incident in the 3rd race, Kurtis recorded a DNF before a superb comeback in the final race of the weekend to take 2nd in class to make it three podiums over the course of the weekend on ContiRaceAttack Comp street legal race tyres.
The next meeting will be in early September at the super-fast Snetterton 300 circuit on 8th and 9th.
