With the Manx GP looming, Sam Cross of Wirral based SC Motorcycles decided to take the opportunity to test out his garage setup one final time with a trip to the Angelsey Circuit with the Wirral 100 club.
Armed with a brand new set of ContiRaceAttack tyres, which Sam made the switch to earlier this year, the team and supporters arrived at Trac Mon in high spirits, despite the mixed forecast.
The Saturday brought sunshine and wind to Angelsey, but Sam registered two 2nd places in the 650 Twin classes, and a first win of the weekend in the Lightweight Open.
Sunday saw heavy rain forming out over the sea, being blown ashore by the high winds which had picked up overnight. A master in the wet, the forecast couldn’t have been better for Sam, as the rain grew heavier and heavier throughout the day.
The first Sunday race saw Sam bring home another 2nd placed finish, before he took a superb win in the 650 Twins as the rain lashed down over the circuit. The final race of the weekend, back in the Lightweight Open class saw Sam chasing down the lead from the off, as he tried valiantly to keep pace with a much bigger bike on the straight sections. When the final lap flag came down, he knew he had very few opportunities left, but after managing to keep pace with the bigger bike for the whole of the race, he kept his head down, and made a move on the second to last corner to take a hard fought win.
With a first entry into the world of road racing right around the corner, things are looking good for Sam, and we look forward to following his progress on the island on Continental.
