The weather may not have been ideal at the weekend, but the Thundersport GB riders still turned up in large numbers for a weekend of racing action at Angelsey Circuit in North Wales.
Racing in the Van Insurer Formula 600 series was Yorkshire based Joe Barton Racing (pictured, credit to Dave Jackson) on his Continental shod Yamaha race bike.
Qualifying saw the team struggling with bike setup, resulting in a lack of rear grip to end up 15th on the grid. However, with plenty of time to go before the first race they put in some hard work to make some big improvements to the bike which saw Joe make his way through the field to finish on the podium with a superb 3rd in class on ContiRaceAttack Comp street legal race tyres.
Based close to the coast, Angelsey is well known for its changeable weather conditions and it did not let riders down. Rain shortly before the start of the second race saw riders racing a tyre choice dilemma. Joe opted to run on the ContiRaceAttack Rain, but as the weather improved it was clear that on a quick drying track, with competitors on standard race tyres it was not the right decision as Joe came home with a 9th place in class.
The rain came back at avengeance for the 3rd and final race of the weekend, and Joe was in no doubt this time about his choice of tyre with the ContiRaceAttack Rain staying firmly on the bike. Joe said that “the grip was very impressive” and he was able to climb the field to finish 5th in class, just shy of another podium after an excellent ride as the race was red flagged on the 7th lap of 12.
Congratulations to Joe and team from everyone here at Continental Motorcycle in the UK!
