Nifty Fifty Endurance 2016

The final round of the Nifty Fifty 2016 endurance series took place at Route 34 Moto Park near Winchester on Saturday 24th September, and we let our UK Brand Manager Graham loose once again for the finale.

After the first two rounds, Team Venture Motorcycles running a modified Yamaha Neos 50cc were sitting in a reasonable position in the championship but as yet had not completed a full 5-hour event due to mechanical issues.

After the second round, Venture Motorcycles’ mechanical team consisting of Peter Hutton, Richard Hutton and Wyn Hagon attempted to address some of the issues which had led to early retirement. Having missed round 2, Graham was keen to get back on the bike and unleash the power, with an impressive 3bhp at the back wheel.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances the normal team of four riders was reduced to just two. Alongside Graham, Peter would also take regular 30 minute stints before handing the bike back over to his riding partner.

The event start was spectacular as 68 teams, many in fancy dress and all raising money for their chosencharities, descended on the start line. In both classes it was clear to see that there were some quick machines, and conversely a number that would probably struggle with the rigours of the Route 34 ‘B’ circuit which had recently been watered.

Peter made an impressive start, demonstrating all the benefits that their recent work on the Neos had provided. At one point early on, the rider in front  took a heavy fall, causing Peter to crash also, but he was straight back on the Neos with barely any time lost.

The pair continued to log consistent sub 2-minute lap times, although a number of red flag incidents gave both riders a bit of a welcome breather whilst the track was cleared of both any debris.

The tight twisty circuit made way for some close and exciting riding as competitors enjoyed some real dog fights as teams jostled for position. Only needing fuel and a change of air filter, the Yamaha Neos didn’t miss a beat until in the final 20 minutes it started to feel the strain. dropping the pace a little bit, Team Venture finished the event to complete 127 laps in 5 hours.

The team reported that the ContiMove 365 tyres, used in every round, were absolutely faultless and even after 15 hours of championship riding they still looked in peak condition.

In the final round the team finished 8th place overall, but also took 3rd place in the 50cc Twist and Go class, giving them a maiden podium.

A big thanks must go out to the team behind the fabulous Nifty Fifty event, who have enabled all those involved to raise some impressive sums of money for their chosen charities. The Team Venture charity of choice was The Courage Foundation, who support bereaved children and their families when they lose a sibling.
