The second round of the 2016 Nifty Fifty Endurance charity event took place last weekend at a rather muddy Route 34 Motocross Park near Winchester with riders on a range of modified machines never intended to put in laps of an off-road circuit.
Team Venture Motorcycles, missing our very own Graham Matcham who was unable to race due to commitments with Thundersport at Oulton Park, returned confident after solid opening round, with the ’98 50cc Yamaha Neos firing on all cylinders once again.
The first round saw the Neos flagged off the course after a problem with the exhaust led to noise issues late on in the event, but substantial repairs had been made since May to get the bike back into tip top condition.
Organisers switched to the A circuit for round two, meaning that machines had to cope with longer laps, steeper climbs and some very boggy sections courtesy of the heavy rainfall in the week leading up to the event.
Riders Peter Hutton, Wynn Hagon and Tony Talbot formed a three man team and started strongly, with the ContiMove365 tyres coping well despite the difficult conditions.
After two hours of thrashing around the course, the clutch began to cause a few issues. However, the riders persevered for a further three hours, putting in a total of 60 laps on the demanding circuit.
Despite the problems with the clutch, the team finished a very respectable 7th place, leaving them 6th overall with one more round to look forward to in September.
