Earlier this year we introduced you all to Bottpower, who have been working alongside our colleagues in Spain in the run up to the 95th annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Working with veteran rider and Sideburn magazine regular Travis Newbold, the motorcycle maker had grand visions for their ContiTrack Slick shod XR1R titanium framed racer and it seems that all their hard work has paid off!
Riders have had plenty to contend with this year on the challenging Pikes Peak course in Colorado. The course’s 156 turns see competitors snaking their way up to 14,115 feet above sea level over a distance 12.42 miles in an event known to many as ‘The Race To The Clouds’.
There has been snow alongside the road at high altitude this year, but this along with the sheer drops and lack of safety barriers has done little to deter 2 and 4-wheel racers determined to push both themselves and their machines to the limits.
Practice and qualifying proved positive for Travis and the Bottpower squad, and the US rider held his nerve on race day to finish top of the Exhibition Powersport class and come home as 4th fastest motorcycle overall.
Just ahead of him was another Continental supported Kawasaki Z900 rider Bruno Langlois, who after winning in 2016 had to settle for 3rd place overall and in the Heavyweight Motorcycle class behind Rennie Scaysbrook and Chris Fillmore.
Congratulations to Bottpower and both riders on their fantastic achievements and silverware!
