After notching up two 2nd placed finishes at Donington Park the previous weekend, things were looking very positive for EB Racing and rider Richie Harrison as they headed for North Yorkshire on Saturday.
Situated just outside Dalton on Tees, Croft race circuit was playing host to the first round of the North East Motorcycle Racing Club, giving Richie more time to work on the team’s Yamaha R6 by racing in the Pre-Injection 600 class.
The first race saw a rapidly drying track, and with no time to switch wheels, Richie headed out on ContiRaceAttack Rain tyres, tucking the front end right in front of team boss Alan Edwards before managing to somehow save himself and rescue 3rd place for himself and the team.
A further deluge of rain later that day, combined with the strict time regulations at Croft, meant that the days second race didn’t go ahead, with extra laps added on the Sunday to compensate.
Sunday’s first Pre-Injection race was much more straight forward affair for Richie however, as the dry wheelset shod with our ContiRaceAttack Comp rubber went back on the bike. A superb start saw Richie open up an immediate lead, and by the time the chequered flag fell his lead was a very impressive 9 seconds.
The final race started well for Richie until he hit a false neutral going into turn 1, taking him straight into the gravel. With the tyre wall fast approaching he had little choice but to lay the bike down and try to minimise any damages.
It was a shame to end such a positive weekend on a slightly sour note, but the team will now have just under four weeks to assess the damage and get ready for the third round of the Thundersport GB championship at the Snetterton 200 circuit in late April.
