Despite a difficult weekend fraught with electrical issues, Eazi Grip’s Joe Walton maintained his composure to take three podiums from four races and the lead in the Preston & District Minitwins championship.
The third round of the season took riders to the Three Sisters circuit in Wigan, and despite the grey skies the recent rains failed to reappear much to the relief of everyone.
The electrical issues saw Joe’s back wheel shod with his favoured ContiRaceAttack Comp rubber lock up in the first session of the day, sending the Suzuki and the rider straight into the tyre wall.
With the cause of the problem something of a mystery, Joe and team stripped the bike down and tried several fixes but to no avail.
Despite the risk of being thrown off the bike once again, Race One saw Joe start well to sit in 2nd place behind the leader. The electrical issue was clearly limiting the speed of the bike however, and Joe dropped back to 4th by the time he reached the finish line.
Undeterred, Joe got his head down and scored a well deserved 2nd place, followed by another one, and 3rd in the final contest of the day.
That never say die attitude now sees Joe leading the Minitwins championship, as well as taking 2nd place in the Novice class with plenty of racing left to come.
Joe and team will also be competing at Tonfanau and with the North Gloucester club in the coming months, and hope to have the bike running on top form ahead of a trip to Mallory this month.
