In his first season in the BEMSEE Powerbike Clubman series Eastern Garage Racing rider Joe Muncey #36 has been getting quicker and quicker as he gets used to the new BMW S1000R race bike and the new ContiRaceAttack Slick tyres.
Last weekend Joe was at Silverstone along with all the other BEMSEE riders for the next round of the championship, a weekend which also saw great performances and podium places for Continental users including Kurtis Butler, Luke Harris and Michael Copley.
A strong performance in qualifying saw Joe start 4th in class on the grid, just off the pace of front runner Michael Honey. During the first race of the weekend Joe was involved in a close battle with fellow rider Mark Fincham whom he passed and held off by just over 0.2 seconds in order to take 3rd place on the podium.
In the second race of the day Fincham slipped passed Joe, leaving him in another hard fought battle for 4th place with John Coughlan on his Aprilia and again Joe held him off by fractions of a second to cross the line just outside of the podium places.
In the next race Joe again picked up the pace and places to pass Fincham and take a comfortable 3rd place by over four seconds, with Honey and Roger Marsh battling it out for the class win a little further ahead. The final race saw Joe involved in another close battle with rival Mark Fincham, but keeping his hand on the throttle and riding with real maturity Joe saw off the challenge to finish less than one tenth of a second ahead of his rival to record another 3rd place and his third and final podium finish of the weekend.
The next round sees Eastern Garage at Oulton Park, and with Joe improving with every race it is going to be an exciting weekend!
