At last weekend’s British Historic Racing VMCC meeting at Anglesey, a simple change of tyre brand helped Welsh racer Ian Henshaw to beat a record which has stood for almost a decade.
Tim Jackson set the 251 – 350cc lap record for machines up to 1962 in 2009, when he put in a 1:25.71 at Anglesey on his AJS 7R.
After fitting the acclaimed ContiRoadAttack 2 CR classic race radial tyres ahead of this meeting, Ian was able to dip under that long-standing record on three separate occasions at Trac Mon.
Riding a Royal Enfield Clipper 350, during Sunday morning’s race Ian put in a 1:25.59 on lap 3, 1:25.24 on lap 4 and finally 1:25.61 on lap 6.
After taking close to half a second off the previous lap record, Ian is hoping that his record will remain unbroken for years to come.
Fingers crossed he’ll break a few more at other tracks around the UK later this season!
