Despite rain blighting the early part of the race at the annual Spa Bikers Classic at the weekend, race fans in Belgium were still treated to an action packed 4-hours of classic endurance racing.
A number of UK based teams made the short trip across the channel to compete, although Spa regulars Sweatshop Phase One were sadly absent due to commitments elsewhere.
In the highly competitive maxi class, Trentside Racing and Team SCERT were separated by less than 7 seconds at the finish line as they took 5th and 6th place respectively.
There was an all-Continental podium in Class C, where Team A.M.finished ahead of the German Guzzi Classic outfit and AML Racing, while in Class O the RST Edge duo of Jonny Towers and Nick Edgeley came home two laps ahead of Team Semtex and Rooster Racing 1 to make it another podium lockout for our race tyres.
Reliability plays a huge role in endurance racing, especially with these classic machines, and it was a shame to see Team Slabside Classic and new entrants Team Baxi Ducati pull out early, but no doubt they’ll both be back ready for action in the near future.
With around 70% of the field running on a mixture of 17 and 18-inch Continental tyres, taking a total of ten podiums, it was definitely a weekend which re-enforced our position as the dominant force in European classic endurance motorcycle racing.
