Sport Touring Tyre ComparisonThe German magazine Motorrad are regarded by many in the industry as the most thorough tester of tyres around , and in their latest edition they have been putting some of the top sport touring tyres through their paces including the new ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO which delivers even more mileage and even better wet grip than its predecessor.

The expert product testers at the magazine have put seven tyres through a series of tests on dry roads and in the wet on a test track, scoring them on aspects such as handling, cornering stability and steering precision. The seven products tested were as follows:

  • ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO
  • Avon Storm 3D X-M
  • Bridgestone Battlax T30
  • Dunlop Roadsmart 2
  • Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact
  • Michelin Pilot Road 4
  • Pirelli Angel GT

This was a real test for the new Continental, as the development engineers had set a benchmark based on the market leading tyre at the time that they wanted to match with the new tyre. The tyre uses a number of core Continental technologies including Traction Skin which reduces the need for scrubbing in the new tyre to give increased grip from the first mile. The Black Chili compound gives fast warm up times even in cooler conditions, and the Continuous Compound Technology creates a multi compound style tyre from a single piece of rubber whilst eliminating the feeling of step which riders often when transitioning in and out of corners as the tyre moves from one compound to the next.

The Continental was the runaway winner in the dry road and autobahn test, finishing 5 points ahead of its nearest rivals with 136 points out of a possible 150. The expert testers praised the neutral and precise handling, saying the tyre was the most fun of all those tested on country roads. The “whopping corner grip” also provided huge levels of confidence for the riders.

In the wet the Continental matched the Metzeler and Bridgestone, and again the riders reported that the confidence when cornering was high with the handling and steering precision also remaining neutral and accurate throughout.

The new ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO was awarded a “Best Buy” by Motorrad magazine as the clear winner of the dry road test, and is now available in the UK in a full range of sizes including those for big adventure bikes.

With test results like these, isn’t it time you tried Continental?
