Built by UK based Rally Raid Products, the Honda CB500X Adventure aims to prove that bigger isn’t always better – and with a plethora of custom parts available for this adventure machine, and TKC 80 tyres from Continental as standard, creator John Mitchinson was confident that the bike could take on anything.
Recently the bike completed the Trans-American Trail, with rider Jenny Morgan completing the journey from West to East coast and back again on some often rugged terrain. However, John wanted to go a step further – so he decided to fly out to Australia and team up with David Darcy of Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV and take on a 6,000 kilometres journey which included a crossing of the arid Simpson Desert from south to north. We previously supported David when he decided to ride from London to Sydney a couple of years ago.
With 1,700 kilometres just to get to the edge of the Simpson, this truly was the ultimate Aussie test for the CB500X Adventure, but both John and the bike passed with flying colours. Luckily for the team, John is also a dab hand at repairing KTM’s, so he was the ideal partner to have on the trip when their bikes encountered problems in some very remote locations.
With a total of 8 riders including John, two support trucks, and a drone camera the team captured some superb footage as they headed to Birdsville on the edge of the Simpson Desert, and then ventured into this hot, sandy wilderness.
