Frenchman Bruno Langlois is no stranger to the annual ‘Race in the Clouds’ – having won there back in 2013.
This year’s 94th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb took place in ideal conditions, with superb views from finish line at the summit down to the valley and the town of Colorado Springs below.
Rising a total of 4,725 feet over the course of 12.42 miles, the famous mountain course features 156 twists and turns, and it is certainly not one for the fainthearted, with sheer drops no more than a few metres from the road’s edge in many places.
Riding his race ready Kawasaki Z1000, which includes MoTec electronics and an engine block created by Akira Technologies, Bruno opted to put his trust in our latest ContiTrack Slick racing tyres – new to our range in 2016.
There have been a number of fatalities at Pikes Peak over the years, and a number of safety improvements have been made, although there is still a huge level of risk involved, as with any road race. Thankfully in 2016 there were no fatalities, although a number of competitors were involved in heavy crashes, highlighting just how hard they push both themselves and their machines, requiring them to have absolute trust in every single element of their bike including the tyres.
Bruno was the fastest competitor on 2-wheels in 2016 with a winning time of 10:13.106, not only beating his winning time from 2013 but also finishing more than 15 seconds ahead of his closest competitor in the Heavyweight class, and more than 4 seconds ahead of the next fastest motorcycle.
The new ContiTrack Slick replaces the RaceAttack Slick as of 2016, and offers much improved braking stability, greater drive out of the corners and even more precise turn-in – all used to great effect by Bruno as he powered his way to the top of the fast and technical Pikes Peak course!
Congratulations to Bruno on his superb victory and we hope to see him back in the USA next year!
