After setting eyes on the Lac Rose scrambler concept earlier this year, rumour has been rife that BMW were going to unveil a new R nineT scrambler – and this week they finally pulled the covers of their new production bike at EICMA in Milan.
With styling clearly based on the iconic R80 G/S, the new R nineT Urban G/S uses BMW’s superb air-cooled boxer-twin power plant which makes a claimed 110bhp.
The bike comes with ABS as standard, with BMW’s own traction control system also available on the options list.
The standard Urban G/S comes with a 19″ front and cast alloy wheels, but spoked wheels and our proven Continental TKC 80 dual-sport tyres also come as an option. They also appear on the latest BMW R1200GS Rallye launched for 2017.
The tried and tested big block TKC 80 pattern adds to the classic enduro styling and gives the bike a level of genuine off-road ability – although you’ll want to think about fitting protection such as a bash plate if you’re serious about hitting the dirt.
BMW’s original R80 G/S is considered by many as the godfather of adventure bikes, a market which has become one of the most important and fastest growing for all manufacturers in recent years – so this new Bavarian bike has got something of a reputation to live up to.
We can’t wait to see them land in the UK next year, although prices are yet to be confirmed.
