BMW R nineT test

In the latest issue of MCN (13th August 2014) Senior Reporter Andy Downes has been testing the fantastic looking new BMW R nineT on a five day, 2000 mile trip to Bavaria and back to visit the official BMW Motorrad Days event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Loaded up with luggage he took a route which covered European motorways and mountain roads, on a naked bike more at home in the city than anywhere else but he was very surprised about how comfortable the five day ride actually was. As every rider knows, Germany has a number of sections of unrestricted autobahn perfect for testing out just what the new BMW was capable of speed wise, and it did not disappoint even when loaded up.

Andy was also surprised with the top-end staying power of the engine which he said was “impressive for a 110bhp boxer twin.”

The bike was shod with our latest sport touring tyre, the ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO, which Andy said were “excellent in every condition they have ridden through”.

The new EVO version features more wet grip, and delivers even more mileage than the ever popular ContiRoadAttack 2. Later in the issue MCN Senior Road Tester Michael Neeves also recommended the new tyre to a rider who was looking to do a 3,000 mile European tour on his CBR1000RR Fireblade this autumn stating that the tyre has made “a big step forward in wet grip and durability over the original with the EVO version”.

The ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO features all the latest core technologies unique to Continental, and comes in a wide range of sizes which also cover big adventure bikes.
