Last weekend saw another stellar performance from Cam Harris, competing in the Rookie Minitwin class with BEMSEE at Norfolk’s super quick Snetterton circuit.
Despite the fact that this was yet another new circuit for Cam to learn in his debut racing season, the Cambridgeshire based rider seemed completely unphased by the task ahead.
Cameron qualified second in class on the Harris Performance backed SV650, quickly getting to work on his ContiRaceAttack Comp tyres.
The first race saw Cameron get the better of Charlie Downes as he worked his way through the mixed-class pack to take maximum points, although Downes would turn the tables in the second race of the day.
Fast forward to Sunday and Cam was able to get the better of his championship rival on both occasions, setting the fastest lap in the opening contest to win by around two seconds as he keeps his sights on a title in his opening season. Fellow rookie Eddie Daly also joined him on the podium in the final race in 3rd place to wrap up a positive weekend of top six finishes. After switching to Continental tyres, Jon Barnes also closed the gap to Cam and came away with two 3rd placed finishes, with Wil Green just missing out as he fought hard to get inside the top three. Unfortunately for last year’s Rookie champion Dan Singleton his weekend was cut short as he failed to finish the opening MRO Minitwins race, coming away from Norfolk empty handed.
Thundebike Rookie Ande Friend also had a very positive weekend despite crashing out for the first time in his racing career. Ande took two 2nd in class finishes along with a 3rd place to score valuable championship points on the #258 Suzuki. Last year’s Rookie title contender Adam Norton has stepped up to the Extreme class for 2017, and also broke into the top ten on two occasions on his Honda Fireblade, as did Kevin Miller in the Thunderbike Sport class.
After his father Paul Newman retired from racing last year, his son Tom has very much taken over the reigns and has shown real talent in the Rookie 600s, taking a clean sweep of victories at Snetterton to take maximum points in Norfolk.
Congratulations to everyone on their results at the weekend.
Next up for the BEMSEE paddock it’s Donington Park in mid June, and we look forward to seeing you there.
