The super-quick Silverstone Circuit played host to the second round of this year’s BEMSEE championship last weekend, with many riders praying for dry weather in Northamptonshire over the three days.
Unfortunately those prayers clearly fell on deaf ears, but it certainly didn’t keep the smiles off rider’s faces.
After an impressive opening round at Brands Hatch in March, Andy Smith was keen to carry on his good form in the Clubman 600 class, picking up two podium finishes on the opening day of racing. The final race of the weekend also resulted in a win, taking his tally this season to three and counting so far on Continental race tyres.
Last season’s top Thunderbike Extreme Rookie Ande Friend has quickly adapted to life in the main class this year, finishing well inside the top ten along with Adam Norton on the Saturday. Ande would pick up the pace again on the Sunday, as he claimed two 3rd placed finishes to take to the podium for the first time this season. Rookie title hopeful Robert Breen didn’t finish outside of the top three all weekend on the International circuit, also managing to take one win in the first of Sunday’s two races.
Continental race dealer Alan Russell was racing for the first time this season on his unique Tigcraft machine, entering into the ever competitive Thunderbike Sport class where he went on to take 5th, 6th, 7th and another 6th despite minimal time to work on the bike so far this year. In the Rookie class, Shane Beasley was also on top form as he narrowly missed out on two wins on the Saturday, but came back strong in the final race to take a well deserved victory.
Several riders have jumped up to the MRO Minitwin class this year, and after torrid Saturday Dan Harris came back strong during Sunday’s opening damp race to take his first win in a national level championship. Dan Singleton also added another win to his tally in the championship with victory on the Saturday. Wil Green also broke into the top ten on Sunday for Faith Fueled Racing, while in the Rookie Class the high flying Charlie Crawt claimed two well deserved wins on the Saturday followed by two runners-up spots on the Sunday. Rob Franklin also joined Charlie on the podium during the action on Saturday, and was unlucky not to claim another as he chased the lead trio on Sunday.
Congratulations to all the riders who took part at Silverstone on some great results.
BEMSEE will be back at Cadwell Park later this month to take on the famous Mountain at the Lincolnshire circuit.
