Occasional showers gave many riders a tyre selection headache at times as BEMSEE took over at Donington Park last weekend for the 5th round of their 2018 season.
As always, Continental’s comprehensive range of race tyres were in high demand all weekend long, proving highly popular with riders across several different classes.
In the Thunderbike Sport class, Shane Beasley continued his domination in the race for the Rookie title as he took a trio of wins, making it six in a row following his recent performances at Snetterton.
Similarly in the Rookie Minitwins, Charlie Crawt took three back-to-back wins to further strengthen his championship challenge, with Robert Franklin also on the podium in 3rd place in the first and the final race.
Another rookie who is flying this season is Rob Breen, racing on the Thunderbike Extreme grid for Traxden Motorcycles. Rob finished runner up in the first two races, and ended on a high with a win in the final showdown. In the main class, last year’s Rookie Champion Ande Friend had something of a difficult weekend after a big pre-race crash saw him battling through the pain barrier, finishing in the top ten in the third and final race of the weekend.
In the main MRO Minitwin series, title protagonists Dan Singleton and Mason Williams were battling it out once again, with Dan taking two vital wins ahead of the next round at Brands GP in July.
Finally, after missing the last round at Snetterton, Clubman 600 front runner Andy Smith was back at the sharp end with a podium in each of his three races, with Cam Harris also well inside the top ten on his Harris Performance YZF-R6.
We’ll be back with Bemsee next month in Kent on 7th – 8th July.
