The sun was definitely shining over Brands Hatch during the bank holiday weekend as the BEMSEE paddock rolled into town for the third time this year.
Rookie 400 rider Aiden Patmore (pictured – second left) has been smashing class lap records all season long on the Dorset Bikes supported Kawasaki ZXR-400.
Aiden went into the weekend at the top of the Rookie 400 championship, and once again stamped his authority on the series with four wins from four races. In the final race he also managed to get the better of fellow Kawasaki rider Gary Henning in the main 400 class to take the outright win too.
Patmore had also decided to enter the Thunderbike Rookie class at Brands Hatch, currently being led by fellow Continental rider Ande Friend on his eye-catching red Suzuki. To make things more difficult for himself, Patmore would be on his 400cc machine against a field of much larger bikes. Both would be using the treaded ContiRaceAttack Comp.
Friend qualified 0.087s ahead of Patmore to take the upper hand into the opening Thunderbike race of the weekend. Minitwin Rookie Jon Barnes also joined the action on the Saturday, grabbing some valuable track time ahead of the next round at Cadwell.
Friend took the opening win as Carl Tucker found his way past Patmore to seal 2nd place as Barnes took an impressive 4th on his class debut. Aiden fought back in race two to take 2nd place in behind Ande, as Barnes also found his way onto the podium with a hard fought 3rd placed finish.
Despite holding a significant power advantage, Ande was pushed all the way by Aiden on the Sunday as the pair pulled a gap on the rest of the class, with Friend scoring another two wins to increase his points advantage to 38 as he looks ahead to the season finale.
Aiden was carrying some impressive corner speed on the 400, which you can see from Ande’s race footage below:
Congratulations to all three riders on making the podium this weekend.
