With the 4 Hours of Spa Classic just over a week away, Continental UK backed Phase One Racing have been hard at work preparing for the 2nd round of the European Classic Bike Series, a title they won in 2013, and came close to defending in 2014 with a superb 2nd place overall.
The Belgian round will see over 60 teams from ten different countries taking part, including home favourites Team Force, who also run on the ContiRoadAttack 2 CR classic race tyre.
The Belgian duo of Hubin and Fastre started well in France, taking a win just ahead of Phase One – a great way to begin defending your title.
British based Phase One, with the renowned Russell Benney at the helm, combines experience and professionalism with speed. This year the team have enlisted the help of Stéphane Mertens, and the Belgian rider is a true Francorchamps specialist. Merten’s, who only just missed out on the 1989 World Superbike title, will be partnered with Ian Simpson. Phase One even have a second team coming to Francorchamps, with Hugh Brasher and the experienced Swede Peter Linden riding; both of them no strangers to the Francorchamps circuit. The teams will do everything to do better than last year when Phase One finished third in Belgium.
The 4 hour endurance race will take place as night descends over the famous Spa circuit, with the chequered flag being waved at midnight. Teams need to exercise the ultimate levels of concentration and speed if they want to challenge for the podium, and we’ve got our fingers crossed for Phase One on their P&M Suzuki as they look to get their hands on another endurance title!
