As the son of Kevin Sanders, one half of the husband and wife team behind GlobeBusters Motorcycle Expeditions, Rhys Lawrey certainly comes from strong overland riding stock! This Saturday Rhys will set off from London on his own overland motorcycle adventure in an attempt to set two Guinness World Records.
At the age of 22 he aims to become the “Youngest Person to Circumnavigate the World by Motorcycle” as well as breaking the record for the “Most Consecutive Capital Cities Visited by Motorcycle”. His journey will see him cover:
- 50,000 Miles
- 73 Countries
- 52 Consecutive Capital Cities
- 6 Continents
The rules for the “Most Consecutive Capital Cities Visited by Motorcycle” record are very strict indeed. Rhys must travel directly from one capital city to the next, only stopping to refuel and cross at borders. A rest break can only be taken once at a capital city, and he must visit a specific landmark within a city centre such as a Town Hall, National Theatre or a Main Square for example. Its going to be a grueling ride, but Rhys has certainly had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business!
Rhys will be riding on the Triumph Tiger XC, fitted with TKC80 Twinduro on/off-road tyres from Continental, also the choice of GlobeBusters who use them on their round the world fleet bikes to tackle a wide range of tough and demanding terrain.
Via his 2moro Rider website Rhys is also helping to raise money for The Princes Trust, as well as seeking to inspire the next generation of motorcyclists. You can also see further information on his route along with his latest updates whilst out on the road. We will be following his progress online, and you can see all the latest updates via our Facebook page too.
Best of luck to Rhys, enjoy the trip!
