Launch of the new ContiRoadAttack 2

  •  Compound technology provides even more grip on wet roads
  •  Continental Traction Skin Technology for safety
  •  New design means greater dynamics
The ContiRoadAttack 2 from Europes leading tyre manufacturer Continental is a new development for sports bikes and sports touring bikes. Continentals development engineers located in the town of Korbach in Germany have adapted the tread and compound to accommodate the latest findings in tyre technology, which means that this tyre achieves significantly more grip on wet and dry roads than its popular predecessor. Handling and mileage performance has also been increased.

These results were achieved through a range of design measures in tyre development. Continental Traction Skin Technology, for example, uses a special coating in the tyre mould which eliminates the need for a release agent which would normally adhere to the tyre surface during the curing process. The running-in time needed is significantly reduced making the ContiRoadAttack 2 the first tyre to offer complete riding safety from the moment it is fitted.

The new tyre offers a further safety benefit on sports bikes and sports touring bikes, thanks to its Continuous Compound Technology - the combination of a soft compound on the shoulder area with harder rubber across the middle of the tread increases safety during cornering, without having to sacrifice high mileage performance. The use of Black Chili Compound containing silica and carbon black, as used in the racing world, means faster warm-up times, something that is important for grip, especially on wet roads. The tyre structure was also redesigned to achieve greater riding dynamics and grip. This involved marrying the steel belt casing with the special tyre contour to further enhance safe handling and precise steering response.

The new ContiRoadAttack 2 will be available from the start of the 2010 season. Continental will be producing the tyre in six sizes for the front wheel and seven for the rear. Approvals have already been obtained for over 250 bikes (from manufacturers including BMW, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha).

After the very successful jaunts of Ewan and Charlie and the ever so slightly mad escapades of Nick Sanders Conti felt it only right and proper that we give the under-dogs a go at something special for a change. So with that in mind Conti have decided to sponsor the Extreme Trifle team and are providing their not very trusty steeds with tyres for the journey.

The team is attempting to re-create the journey of Ewan and Charlie but on not so appropriate bikes, they intend to do the entire trip on Yamaha T80s, bikes better suited to Pizza delivery in suburbia not the Road of Bones in Siberia. It is a measure of how confident Conti are in the Conti Go that they are more than happy to let them have a set or two.

Full details of the teams Wrong Way Round trip and details of their other insane capers can be found on the teams very cool website. There will be a blog of the trip and all the gory details will be there for you to view.

Contisport Attack Beats All-Comers In Latest Sports Tyre Magazine Test.

Leading German magazine ‘PS’ pitted the tyres against each other on all aspects of motorcycling, including cold weather performance, braking stability, straight line stability and of course handling which was measured on the test track.

sportattack_header The ContiSport Attack was up against stiff opposition, opposition that maybe in the past, Continental have not had a competitor against in this sector of the market. This has al changed now, as the german brand excelled against tyres such as the Bridgestone BT-016, Dunlop Qualifier RR, Metzeler Sportec M3, Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and Pirelli Diablo Rosso.

The tyres were given a five star rating system for their credentials, and measurements were also taken for size, weight, acceleration, braking and lap time.

The Sport Attack didn’t drop many stars, in fact it only dropped four in all meaning that cold running, handling, precision, cornering stability and braking stability were all given top marks with the testers commenting that riding their bikes fitted with this tyre ‘made them smile within the first few metres’.
